Venezuela.

'Tipo' or "typical" form. "Flor de Mayo" (May Flower). Very open big and showy flowers. Varies from lilac to intense purple. Apical half of lip is dark amethyst to reddish-amethyst, with a yellow "eye". Warm growing and relatively dry. Twice-a-year flowering. Very threatened in the wild. "The cultivation of (artificially-propagated) species in danger of extinction at least brings some hope". (Aulisi 1989)
